Matt’s Mind for June 8 2025

This was a bit of a hectic week for me. A big Mtg release makes life at a gamestore hectic. So I don’t feel I did as much as I ought’ve. But let me fill you in on what I did throw cycles at this last week.

First, the apparent “being downness” of my website, mad-matt.com, has been resolved. I updated a few plugin removed some I didn’t need, and everything was fine. So now you can read these updates there, as well as on my DeviantArt or my Patreon.

I forgot to mention last week that I’ve stumbled into the world of Asterix and Oblix again. Youtube recommended a movie from 2019 and it was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. And then I watched another, then started reading comics, and it’s so nice to see super high-quality craft.

Free RPG Day is in 2 weeks! That’s been on my mind a lot as well. The store has our boxes, so we can have our GMs begin preparing in earnest. We have 11ish games that the store is putting on. I have my copy of the GI Joe/Transformers adventure. I’ve also made good headway on prepping. for my Pendragon game. It’s nice to see those coming together

The second part of RPG news is not making such progress. My Tuesday group needs preparation done that I’m not prepared for. I really need to grab some tunes and prep hard. It’s like a bandaid. Just gotta yank.

Speaking of yanking, I had a sudden realization about the Batman RPG idea I’ve been contemplating. I have no idea why it’s a role playing game. All of the RP to be done is stuff added after the fact. My notes seem to be describing this a complicated board game. Not a bad thing, but not really the goal. So, I’m archiving the concept for a bit. We’ll see what the muse inspires, but I’m not forcing myself to work on it until after Free Rpg day. Figuring out that it’s a board game does simplify the map ideas I need to do, though.

Speaking of maps, I’ve come up with a way to negotiate the crazy schedule my family has this summer: A west marches style game. But one built around 6 players who schedule games, not 20. I’m still hammering out the details, bit by bit. I have a lot of work to front load, which includes checking out what the new 2024 rules have done to my previously designed hexcrawls.

I finished my player resonance survey and sent it to both the 6 players of my family, and also toward the 6 players of acquaintance. I’ve not gotten a lot of responses yet.

In terms of me making comics and doing stuff with TG Sagas, I remembered an important adage that has helped me out in the past. “Nobody cares about your lore.” Specifically, my lore. Consistency is up to me, and if I want to just throw continuity out the window, I should count myself lucky if people notice. If it wasn’t for the aforementioned stress, I’d have acted more on this. Expect a video cancelling Rachael’s Retcon. Or backburning it, at least. Too much has changed for me to maintain the ties of lore that went into that project. Maybe in the future, but we’ll see.

I was linked a podcast on recontextualizing ADHD in a spiritual that has resonated with some of the thoughts I’ve been thinking lately. Part of this blog is for is to embrace the chaotic nature that I sometimes see in myself. Part of that is working on projects in ways so that work is never wasted. That I can carry on building when my muse chases me back to its old stomping grounds.

Another spiritual thing on my mind this week is that I’m leading the discussion in Elder’s Quorum. The talks we’re covering are from Elder Gimez and Elder Soares. Together, the pair of them do a great job of demonstrating metaphysics and ethics, my terms for the philosphical concepts of figuring out the world and then deciding what to do about it. It should make for a great discussion (although I went to bed at 7 pm, woke up at 11 pm, and then was up all night before the class. So I’m running on caffeinated fumes for it. Hopefully, it’ll be coherent.)

I think that’s it from me this week. This upcomming week sees me doing D&D on Tuesday with a big important race that I have no idea how to present. But that’s the only thing on fire until the 21st. Good time to get stuff. done. We’ll see how I do…

ciao!
